SCUBA CLASSES 

     

Discover Scuba Diving

Learn how to use scuba equipment in the classroom and then in the pool.  You will receive a certificate upon completion.  Participants under 18 will need a parent/guardian to sign liability form. You MUST call the instructor before the first day of class at 263-0045. Additional times available at request.

Open Water Scuba

Approximately 16 hours of classroom and pool instruction will prepare you for PADI open water certification.  Instruction on scuba equipment, underwater environment, decompression tables, fresh and salt water diving complemented with skin and scuba diving in Olympic pool.  All equipment except mask, fins and snorkel will be provided.  Training dives and book are not included. You MUST call the instructor before the first day of class at 263-0045.

Advanced Open Water Scuba - John VanDerVoorn

This course will incorporate additional pool and classroom instruction in equipment maintenance, underwater navigation, diving maladies, ocean diving, repetitive dives with wheel, and specialty diving.  You will receive your advanced open water certification upon completion of five open water dives. Books and open water dives are not included.  You MUST call the instructor before the first day of class at 263-0045.

NEW! Squadron Boating

This boating safety class is offered by the Illinois Valley Power Squadron.  It will cover basic types of boats, terms, power systems, operator responsibilities, boat handling, equipment, navigation lights, boat registration rules, aids to navigation, trailering, marine radio and more; all provided in a classroom setting.  Family situations can get by with one set of material.  Passing an exam provides a certificate.  Register by 4/21.

Intro To Sailing for Youth

Summer time is a great time to go sailing! Children will learn the basic elements of sailing including how to launch, rig and sail 8-12’ boats. Learn about safety on water (including the ‘ rules of the road’) and progress to actually sailing a watercraft. Children must know how to swim.  The IVY Club is Sponsor and Host of Sea Scout Ship 54 and is part of the W.D. Boyce Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  For 2008, the Sailing Classes will be recognized as a BSA, Merit Badge Skill Center and Scouts from the Tri-County area are encouraged to participate.  The course is also open to the general public.
