Predator Day
Sa: 4/26; 11:00am-3:00pm
From the top of the food chain to the bottom, find out what makes a good predator. Presentations and animal feedings will be held throughout the day at this Glen Oak Zoo event. Don’t miss a chance to watch our snakes being fed at 1:00.

‘Logan Looks’ Spring/Summer Style Show
Sa: 4/26; 2:00-4:00pm
Are you a fashion guru? Think you’ve got some style? Do you know what’s hot this season? Find out at this high-energy event, located at the Logan Center.

DESIRED: 7-10 volunteers (ages 18+) to help prepare kids for the show, stage hands

Pioneer Days
Su: 4/27, 5/18, 6/29, 7/27, 8/31; 1:00 - 4:00pm
Interested in Illinois history of the 1850’s? Volunteers can receive training to assist with this unique event at W.H. Sommer Park.

DESIRED: 5 volunteers (ages 12+) to help teach others about our historic cemetery, make candles, or provide hands-on lessons.

Heart of Illinois Senior Olympics
Th-Su: 5/1-4; Events throughout the day. Locations include Peoria, East Peoria, Pekin, Morton.
In friendly competition, mature adults from across the state will exhibit their skills in events such as cycling, basketball, poetry, track and field, and performing arts.  This year’s top contenders will qualify for the 2009 Illinois State Games! Visit www.hiso.org for general event info and a list of activities.

DESIRED: Many volunteers (ages 15+) to serve as sporting, recreational, social, and fine art event hosts. 

Forest Park Garlic Mustard Control
Sa: 5/3; 8:00 am-11:00 am.  (Other dates available by appointment.)

Garlic Mustard, an exotic invasive plant species, is threatening to drive out the native understory plants and is gaining ground rapidly. Please spend what time you can helping us control this plant that is spreading rapidly! A short presentation on garlic mustard identification and control will precede the control efforts. Meet in the Nature Center.

DESIRED: 15-20 volunteers to help with weed control at Forest Park Nature Preserve

CCT Annual Drama Festival
Sa: 5/3; 9:00am-12noon, 12noon-2:00pm, 2:00pm-4:00 pm

The promising thespians of Peoria and beyond will be performing at the Corn Stock Theatre at Bradley Park.  You’ll want to see them on stage for yourself!

DESIRED: 2 volunteers (ages 16+) to help as stage hands and to serve concessions 

Pitch, Hit, & Run
Su: 5/4; 1:45pm - 4:00pm
The fundamentals of baseball will be taught at this one-day camp.  Come out to the Von Steuben Diamond #3 and pass on your knowledge of baseball to area youth.

DESIRED: 4 volunteers (ages 15+) to help run baseball drills.  Must be able to work well with kids.

Outdoor Basketball Tourney
F: 5/9; 3:30-7:00pm

Who’s got game in Peoria? Come see for yourself why many teams anticipate this annual hoops event at Proctor Center.

DESIRED: 10 volunteers (ages 18+) to referee an outdoor court (full or 3-on-3) plus a few to assist with concessions, sign-in, etc.

Blacksmith Hammer-In
Sa: 5/17, 8:00am-5:00pm; Su: 5/18, 8:00am- 12:00pm
Catch the excitement of strength and skill as blacksmiths display their handiwork at W.H. Sommer Park.

DESIRED: 3 volunteers (ages 16+) to assist with check-in, helping with lunch/dinner and general duties while enjoying the event.

Clyde West Fishing Derby
Sa: 5/17, 8:30am-3:00pm

The Glen Oak Lagoon will be stocked with 2,000 pounds of fish, and there will be fun and fishing materials provided to everyone in the community at this long-time favorite outing!

DESIRED: 10-15 volunteers (ages 14+) who are comfortable with fish & worms to assist with fishing, refreshments, and bait tent.

Fort Clark Vintage Baseball Club
Su: 5/18, 7/27; 12:00 - 3:30 pm

Enjoy baseball the old fashioned way—either as a player, crank (fan), official, or helping in the concession stand. (More dates this fall!)

DESIRED: 4 volunteers (ages 16+) to help re-create this vintage event.

"The Streets Belong to Me" Youth Rally
F: 5/30; 9:00am-2:00pm

We’re looking for a few good volunteers to support this positive, community-centered event! We’ll have food, drinks, a DJ, dance competition, and local celebrities, including coaches and athletes. Don’t miss out on the fun at Logan Park!

DESIRED: 5 volunteers (ages 18+) to grill and serve refreshments.

"Return to Pimiteoui" Pow-Wow
Sa: 5/31, 12 -9:00pm; Su: 6/1, 11:00am-4:30pm

A large number of tribes are known to have either inhabited or passed through Pimiteoui, the part of the Illinois River Valley that now includes Peoria Lake and the surrounding area. We welcome descendents of these peoples and all who will join us.

DESIRED: 5-8 volunteers (ages 16+) to serve meals (breakfast both mornings and dinner Saturday evening). 1st Aid/EMT volunteers needed for both days at times listed above.

Hershey Track and Field Meet
Sa: 6/7; 8:30am -12:00pm

Sprinting, running, or jumping—we don’t care how you arrive, but we’d love to have your help at this classic Track and Field event, located at the Peoria Stadium.

DESIRED: 10 volunteers (ages 16+) to help as timers, judges, and registration assistants.

River City Shootout Soccer Tournament
Sa: 6/14; 8:00am-7:00pm and Su: 6/15; 8:00am-5:00pm

As fans and players gather at Detweiller Park for intense soccer competition, you can help make sure they are well cared for and welcomed. 2-3 hour shifts available.

DESIRED: 2-3 volunteers (ages 16+) to sell pre-packaged food, fountain drinks and to make change for customers.

Logan’s Yard Sale
Sa: 6/21; 7:00-10:30am, 10:30am-2:00pm
Logan Center is a favorite spot for many children, teens, and families. Support a good cause, and have some fun at the same time!

DESIRED: 5 volunteers (ages 16+) to help with set up and sale tables.

Juneteenth
Sa: 6/21; 3:00pm-6:00pm
Celebrate the solstice with all the classic favorites of summer at Logan Recreation Center—water, sun, food and good friends.

DESIRED: 6-8 volunteers (ages 16+) to serve snacks and run games.

"Rhapsody in Bloom"
Sa-Su: 6/28-29; 9:00am-5:00pm

Come bask in the glory of Luthy Garden’s flower show! As is the tradition, all the best local artists will be there as well. You might just become enraptured with "Rhapsody."

DESIRED: 5-10 volunteers (ages 16+) to be greeters and help with auction table, artists’ set-up.

3rd of July Fireworks
Th: 7/3; 1:00 – 4:00 pm

Hands down, the best Independence Day show around! The fireworks truly bring the entire community together, and your volunteer support will make the event successful.

DESIRED: 10 volunteers (ages 18+) to assist with set up.

"Oklahoma!" Community Children’s Theatre
Th:7/10, 6:00-10:00pm; F:7/11 and Sa:7/12, 12:30-4:00pm, 6-10pm; Su:7/13, 12:30-4:00pm

If you haven’t experienced CCT before, you’ll want to be a part of this production of Oklahoma!, where the waving wheat sure smells sweet! It all happens at Peoria Players Theatre.

DESIRED: 3 volunteers (ages 16+)/shift for ushering/ concessions.

Princess Party
Sa: 7/12, 6:00pm-9:00am
Though you might not play dress up in your mother’s closet anymore, you can relive your childhood. Help our princesses with hair styling, nails, make up and more at this all-night event.

DESIRED: 6 volunteers (ages 18+) at Logan Center. A Volunteer Application is required for this event.

Youth Jazz Festival
Th: 7/17; 5:30 – 9:00 pm

Pick up your saxophone and zoot suit for a night of summer jazz at the Glen Oak Park Amphitheatre.

DESIRED: 6 volunteers (ages 16+) to act as stage hands and help with gate admissions.

Logan’s Block Party
Sa: 7/19; 5:00pm-9:00pm
Music, people and good times will be here…how about you?

DESIRED: 8-10 volunteers (ages 18+) to help with games and snacks.

Beach Bash
Sa: 7/26; 7:30pm-10:00pm

This luau-style event for youth at Lakeview Aquatic Center will include a DJ, prizes, swimming, contests and food.

DESIRED: 4 volunteers (ages 18+) to serve refreshments.

Carnival in the Park
M: 7/28; 3:30-6:30pm

Games, prizes, and family fun galore! If you want to escape the summer heat, we have the solution—volunteer for the dunk tank!

DESIRED: 6 volunteers (ages 14+) to help with carnival games, prize tent, and dunk tank at Glen Oak Park & Amphitheatre.

Outdoor Splash Party/Night Out Against Crime
Tu: 8/5; 4:00-8:00pm
Speak out and let your voice be heard at this event held in conjunction with the city-wide "Night Out Against Crime." Raise awareness and solidarity for victims of violence.

DESIRED: 5 volunteers (ages 18+) to help grill food for participants at Proctor Center; 8-10 volunteers (ages 18+) to assist with food and special tables at Logan Center.

"Playaz" Party
Sa: 8/9; 6:00pm-9:00am
Moonlight basketball, video games, food…it’ll all be here as the "playaz" have Logan Rec Center to themselves for the night. You can enjoy the fun as well!

DESIRED: 6 volunteers (ages 18+) needed to supervise youth, eat food, and have a good time. A Volunteer Application is required for this event.

Winter in Summer
Su: 8/10; 10:30am-3:30pm

Winter in August?! Come discover the secret for yourself this year at the Peoria Zoo!

DESIRED: 4-6 volunteers (ages 14+) for face painting and games.

Family Nocturnal Fishing Program
F: 8/15; 4:30-8:00pm

Fishing is the name, luring is the game at the W.H. Sommer Park pond! This will be prime time for family angling.

DESIRED: 3 volunteers (ages 16+) to assist with weighing/measuring fish, registration, serving refreshments.
