    JOB TITLE: SWIM INSTRUCTORS

    JOB TITLE: CLIMBING WALL ATTENDANT

    POSITION: Part-Time (Average of 10 – 18 hours/week)

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Have knowledge & experience with indoor rock climbing wall.
    • Experience must include climbing technique, belaying technique and rock climbing safety equipment.
    • Must be 18 years of age or older.
    • Ability to work at heights of up to 30 feet.

    DUTIES:
    • Know and enforce all climbing wall policies and procedures.
    • Visually inspect equipment and facility during opening and closing of wall. Report any problems immediately to supervisor.
    • Complete regularly scheduled rope checks.
    • Provide supervision of climbing wall participants to include belaying and spotting climbers.
    • Attend all bi-monthly Recreation staff meetings/safety checks and trainings with a positive attitude and be prepared to share knowledge and give feedback.
    • Handle all injuries, accidents and emergency situations in accordance with RiverPlex guidelines.

    JOB DUTIES:
    Under the Direct Supervision of the RiverPlex Recreation Manager the arena maintenance/custodial position is responsible for:

    Overall cleanliness of the arena, entrance to arena, arena locker rooms, arena storage rooms and Riverplex first floor classrooms.

    Duties Include:

    • Dust mopping, use of floor scrubbers, mopping
    • Picking up trash, removing trash to outsider dumpsters
    • Clean restrooms in arena locker rooms and keep toiletry items stocked
    • Clean tables, chairs and bleachers as needed
    • Keeping facility areas in an organized state
    • Setting up for programs in each of the above areas.
    • Setting up and tearing down tables and chairs for programs and rentals
    • Setting up and tearing down foam activity mats/toys and other toys/games
    • Setting up and tearing down of volleyball equipment
    • Assisting rentals in set up procedures according to their set up needs
    • General sand volleyball court maintenance, including operation of sand pro rake

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    The work requires physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment and materials that are relative to the services rendered. Prolonged standing, bending, stooping and twisting are required; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on each leg of a repetitive unloading/reloading process; activities involving risks which are typically associated with athletic, recreational and facility rental events; normal safety precautions typical for these areas of services are required. Exposure to power equipment, outdoor turf/field implements and chemicals, indoor cleaning agents and solutions and various hand tools will be required. The indoor work environment is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Outdoor work will expose the incumbent to a wide range of seasonal weather patterns and environmental conditions.

    POSITION: Part Time (Saturdays & Sundays)

    POSITION: Part Time (Average 24 – 29 hours per week)

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.  Extensive experience in a similar role may be substituted for all of part of the educational requirements.
    • Minimum of one year experience in a customer service role, ideally a museum or other visitor attraction setting.
    • Must have excellent customer service, problem solving and organizational skills.
    • Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in a highly diverse informal educational setting.

    • Knowledge of basic telephone and PC functions including Microsoft Office.

    Job Description

    The Exhibit and Program Developer will learn about the programs and administration of two institutions located in one park, and identify ways that these two institutions – a children’s museum and a botanical garden – can collaborate through exhibits and programs.

    Luthy Botanical Garden was established in 1951, and encompasses five acres including over a dozen theme gardens, a Conservatory, a rotating sculpture exhibit and magnificent floral displays. The Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum opened in 2015, and features six exhibits targeted at children ages 0-8 years old. The mission of the PlayHouse is to help children become explorers and creators of the world.

     

    Exhibit Development

    The Exhibit and Program Developer will begin planning  an exhibit  that incorporates elements from children’s literature at both sites and throughout the park. This work will include:

    • Researching audiences to both institutions and making a proposal for the range of ages that should be addressed in this exhibit.
    • Identifying moments, characters, places or objects from children’s literature that relate to content and spaces from each sites.
    • Creating a proposal for the size and scope of this installation and determining a timeline for moving the project forward.

     

    Program Development

    The Exhibit and Program Developer will experiment with collaborative field trips and family workshops at the two institutions.

    Work with field trips will include:

    • Observing and leading field trips at both institutions.
    • Identifying ways in which the logistics of moving large groups of children between the two institutions can be made as easy as possible, and seamlessly incorporated into programming.
    • Developing cross-institutional school visits with a shared theme.

    Work with family workshops will include:

    • Assisting with weekend workshops at both sites.
    • Designing one workshop for families, and one for older children (ages 8-14), that use the expertise and/or space of both the PlayHouse and the Botanic gardens.

     

    In addition, the Exhibit and Program Developer will make further recommendations regarding collaborative programming between the two institutions, and possibly with other areas of the park.

     

    In addition to these primary areas of focus, the Exhibit and Program Developer:

    • Attends PlayHouse and Luthy staff meeting and trainings.
