Immediate opening for a guitar instructor to teach 3 beginning level guitar classes to ages 10 to adult Wednesday evenings from 5 to 8 pm beginning June 6. Must be at least 18 years of age and have experience both playing and teaching acoustic guitar.

DANCE INSTRUCTOR

needed for the Fine Arts Department. Must be 18 years and older with at least one year of teaching experience with children. Must be proficient in ballet, tap, jazz and/or tumbling. Classes are weekdays after school and evenings and Saturday mornings.

GUEST SERVICES - LODGE CASHIER/CONCESSION

POSITION: Part-time


REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of two years of high school
• Experience in food service preferred. Experience working with computers & money handling helpful.
• Ability to accurately handle & serve food in a safe and efficient manner and accurately handle money.
• Aptitude for on-the-job training and ability to follow both written and oral instructions.
• Must possess pleasing personality, courteous manner, good customer service skills and dependability.

DUTIES:
• Selling and preparing concession items accurately and safely.
• Keeping concession areas clean & sanitary and attend to all customer needs.
• Stocking, cleaning and performing regular open/close procedures.
• Assisting in setup and working rental events as needed.
• All other duties assigned

OTHER:
• Requires some physical exertion, prolonged standing, bending and stooping.
• Ability to life and carry up to 25 pounds is required.

GUEST SERVICES ASSISTANT - RENTAL/CONCESSION

POSITION: Part-time

REQUIREMENTS:
• Degree in business, hospitality, management or related field; exceptional experience may substitute part off/all of education preference
• Minimum of two (2) years experience in event management, sales and customer service.
• Experience in retail and/or food service and bookkeeping preferred.
• Ability to work weekend, holidays and special events
• Must possess good customer service and organizational skills.
• Computer experience is required
• Ability to work harmoniously with the public and Peoria Park District Personnel

DUTIES:
• Assisting in rental sales, planning and oversight
• Assisting in daily operation of areas.
• Serving as an on-site observer to maintain quality control of lodge operations
• Assisting in the preparation of appropriate revenue and expenditure reports
• All other duties assigned

OTHER:
• Year round position with an average of 32 hours per week
• Weekends & Evenings required
• $10-$11.50 per hour – dependent upon qualifications

SEASONAL GARDENER

POSITION: Part Time

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school graduate or student status – high school or college preferred.
• Must work weekends, holidays and special events.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work.
• Ability to operate landscape maintenance equipment safely and instruct others on procedures for use.
• Ability to handle assigned projects with a minimum of supervision, follow written and oral instructions and accept responsibility.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work harmoniously with other team members, volunteers and internal and external customers.
• Must have valid driver’s license.
• Ability to reach, walk, squat and bend at the waist and knees and lift up to 50 pounds.

DUTIES:
• Assist with the maintenance of the Botanical Garden, including turf areas, trees and shrubs, gardens, annual beds, fountain and pond areas, parking lot and storage areas.
• Assist in the production and installation of greenhouse crops when necessary.
• Assist with special events as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed.
• Report any vandalism, unusual condition, emergency situation, or incident to Park Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

OTHER:
• Starting salary range is $8.50 - $9 per hour.
• Typical work week of 24 – 36 hours total - weekdays and limited weekends.

GATEWAY BUILDING AMBASSADORS

REQUIREMENTS:
* High school diploma or equivalent preferred
* Previous janitorial work preferred
* Reliable transportation
* Ability to work weekend, holidays, and special events
* Ability to work harmoniously with the public, City of Peoria Personnel, and Peoria Park District staff
* Ability to perform physically demanding work

DUTIES:
* Set up and tear down of room settings for special events, meetings, weddings, etc.

* Clean restrooms, kitchen and balcony
* Take out trash, clean windows and all other duties as assigned.

NATURE CENTER ASSISTANT

POSITION: Part Time

REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of six months experience in sales, programming and/or customer service.
• Knowledge and experience with computers, especially in Macintosh OS and POS systems.
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Excellent customer service skills in working with the general public.

DUTIES:
• Provide exceptional customer service to visitors of the Forest Park Nature Center and Trailhead Nature Store.
• Assist with nature related programs and special events.
• Develop point of purchase displays..
• Handle money and process transactions for the Trailhead Nature Store and all Peoria Park District programming..
• Respond to phone inquiries concerning general nature center information and problem solving regarding local flora and fauna.
• Perform maintenance and upkeep duties, including dusting, washing windows and vacuuming.
• Continue to update personal knowledge of nature and the local environment, in order to better answer customers’ questions.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:
• Starting salary range is $8.25 - $9.25 per hour.
• Normal hours for this position are Saturday 8:30am-5pm and Sunday 12:30pm-5pm every other weekend.

FITNESS INSTRUCTORS and KICKBOXING INSTRUCTORS are needed immediately for Recreation Classes held at FRC. Flexible schedules as needed.

...in our Senior Programs Division

INSTRUCTORS are needed for Yoga, Fun & Fit Exercise, Pilates and Dance Exercise classes for age 50+ adults. Training can be provided. Morning, late afternoon and early evening times available at various locations throughout Peoria. Starting hourly wage is $10.00 - $15.00 based on previous experience.

A CERTIFIED YOGA INSTRUCTOR is needed immediately to teach “chair” Yoga classes to 50+ adults. 2-4 hours per week.

A CERTIFIED EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR is needed immediately for “Fun and Fit Over 50” adult exercise classes. 2-5 hours per week.

A CHEERLEADING COACH is needed beginning January 2012. Coach works 2-4 hours per week coaching 50+ adults in cheerleading squad. The cheerleading squad will compete in the Heart of Illinois Senior Games in May 2012.

GRANT WRITER

POSITION: Part Time (Average 20 hours per week year-round)

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in English, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration or related field. Although a degree is preferred, extensive experience in a like position with similar duties or responsibilities may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
• Requires a minimum of two years experience working in the field of fundraising, special events, membership and/or grant writing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft computer software.
• Ability to provide the best possible image of the Peoria Park District as well as the Peoria Zoological Society.
• Must possess excellent customer service and organizational skills.

DUTIES:
• Assisting with capital campaign grant funding opportunities.
• Providing support to campaign leadership.
• Conducting research of potential funding sources.
• Producing and editing grant proposals as well as compiling required data.
• Maintaining funding opportunity database and activity tracking system.
• Assisting at all member, donor and special events.
• Coordinating letters of interest and presentation materials.
• Performing all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:
• Starting salary range is $12.00 - $15.00 per hour.

CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

POSITION: Part Time

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred
• Previous computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office
• Excellent communication skills
• Work cooperatively with representatives of the community, Peoria Park District staff and OSF Saint Francis Medical Center staff
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions

DUTIES:
• Greeting all customers
• Providing quality assistance to members and guests
• Building a strong rapport with members
• Answering a multiline phone system
• Accurately completing business transactions
• Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed

PERSONAL TRAINER

POSITION: Part Time

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent with some college desired.
• Degree in Exercise Science or related field and/or valid personal trainer certification.
• CPR Certification, or ability to obtain certification.
• Previous experience as a personal trainer or fitness instructor desired.
• Ability to train clients of all fitness levels.
• Knowledge of basic principles of good nutrition.
• Familiar with principles of aerobic and anaerobic training.

DUTIES:
• Perform fitness assessments on clients and interpret results.
• Orient new members to fitness equipment.
• Develop and assist clients with exercise programs.
• Demonstrate appropriate and safe exercises.
• Notice and report any concerns regarding Fitness Center, locker room, members, etc..
• Assist with Fitness Center Maintenance and cleaning.
• Performing all other duties as assigned.

• Salary is commission-based.

RIVERPLEX FEMALE CUSTODIAN

POSITION: Part Time (Saturdays & Sundays)

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent. Although a diploma is preferred, extensive experience in a like position may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
• General knowledge of cleaning and maintaining facilities is required.
• Must possess basic repair and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate and maintain mechanized cleaning equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently.

DUTIES:
• Monitor the cleanliness of the female locker room.
• Ensure that program areas, equipment and locker rooms are neat and in good repair.
• Perform all assigned facility maintenance and clean up.
• Assist in preparation and monitoring of maintenance supplies.
• Assist in keeping the RiverPlex and surrounding grounds clean, safe, comfortable and attractive.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:
• Starting salary wage is $8.25 per hour.



LIFEGUARDS
The Peoria Park District has part-time openings for lifeguards at the AquaPlex. Must have a current Ellis NPWLTP certification, or be able to complete an upcoming training. Call Sue Wheeler at 309-282-1531 for information on training classes.

The Heart of Illinois Special Recreation Association (HISRA) is a cooperative effort of the Peoria, Morton, Chillicothe, and Washington Park Districts. Its mission is to provide quality recreation programs and services to individuals with disabilities and special needs. HISRA has several openings for responsible and caring individuals:

Program Leader (Two Positions Available)

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working with adults and/or children with disabilities.
• Supervisory and/or leadership experience is preferred.
• Must be enthusiastic, patient and provide excellent customer service.
• Knowledge of recreation, special recreation, adaptive physical education, leisure skills or other related fields.
• Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid Driver’s License.

DUTIES:
• Implement planned activities and supervise participants, program aides and volunteers.
• Establish excellent rapport with participants, parents and coworkers.
• Analyze participants’ current developmental status and target areas for potential growth.
• Develop a session-to-session program agenda utilizing proper lesson plan format.
• Complete and submit all required written reports.
• Develop a variety of experiences for HISRA participants.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:
• This position is for HISRA’s FOCUS Adult Program. Hours are approximately 30 hours per week, Monday thru Thursday between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00PM. Start and end time is potentially flexible.

PROGRAM AIDES (several openings)
These individuals will be responsible for assisting the Program Leader in the implementation and supervision of the planned outing.
One position will have a M/T/Th Focus between the hours of 8am – 3pm.
One position will have a varied schedule dependent upon programs.

PEORIA AREA WATER WIZARDS SWIM COACHES

POSITION: Part-time, must be able to work some evening and weekend hours

REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have a valid Driver’s License
• Experience in swim team coaching
• Valid CPR and first aid certificates
• Ability to relate to public and other employees in an enthusiastic and proper manner.
DUTIES:
• Serve as a representative to the swim team affiliate organizations; including the Parents' Club, and United States Swimming
• Assist in establishment of swim team requirements, practice and meet schedules, swimmer time and attendance records and swim team program content
• Give instructions on correct swimming and diving techniques to people of all ages and abilities
