PART-TIME ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT IN THE RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT

POSITION: Part Time

REQUIREMENTS:
• Requires High School Diploma; Associate Degree in Business or related field preferred. Extensive experience in a like position with similar duties and responsibilities may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
• Minimum of three years experience in general office work or a related field.
• Thorough knowledge of general office procedures, computer operation and various software and database applications, specifically Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Typing skills (65-70 wpm), general bookkeeping, and ability to create and maintain efficient filing systems.
• Ability to accurately take minutes for committee meetings
• Ability to communicate tactfully, both orally and in writing, utilizing a thorough knowledge of business English, grammar and spelling.
• Ability to self-supervise and allocate available time to accomplish tasks.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license, insurance and a reliable vehicle.
• Between 20 and 30 hours per week.

DUTIES:

• Types, handles correspondence, telephone calls and channels communications for the Risk Management Department.
• Provides clerical support – copying, scanning, faxing, filing and mailing.
• Maintains office files including: inspection forms, training logs, training registrations, departmental purchase orders/invoices, work orders, etc.
• Assist in the Risk Management’s Compliance Program Reviews and Loss Control Reviews.
• Assists in maintaining up-to-date files regarding the District’s required safety and system inspections.
• Accurately recording monthly Safety Committee meeting minutes.
• Complete MEDIC First Aid Instructor Development Course (First Aid/CPR/AED) and instruct MEDIC First Aid as required.
• Performs basic accident investigations as required.
• Performs building inspections as required.
• Perform facility cash audits as required.
• Follows all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supports all aspect of the Park District’s safety program.

PEORIA ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY - DEVELOPMENT AND MEMBERSHIP ASSISTANT

POSITION: Part Time (Average 24 - 28 hours per week)

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration or related field. Although a degree is preferred, extensive experience in a like position with similar duties or responsibilities may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
• Requires a minimum of two years experience working in the field of fundraising, special events, membership and/or grant writing.
• Proficiency in Microsoft, Raiser’s Edge, and Adobe Suite software preferred.

DUTIES:
• Assisting with capital campaign administrative duties including data entry, letter generation and financial reporting.

• Participating in marketing efforts to increase capital and major gifts.

ARENA MAINTENANCE/CUSTODIAL

POSITION: Part time: 25 hours/week M-F, occasional weekends as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education - High School diploma or equivalent desired

Experience - One year experience in janitorial or maintenance duties and procedures preferred

Knowledge and Ability
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and ability to read layout maps for events

JOB DUTIES:
Under the Direct Supervision of the RiverPlex Recreation Manager the arena maintenance/custodial position is responsible for:

- Overall cleanliness of the arena, entrance to arena, arena locker rooms, arena storage rooms and Riverplex first floor classrooms.
Duties Include:
  -dust mopping, use of floor scrubbers, mopping
  -picking up trash, removing trash to outsider dumpsters
  -clean restrooms in arena locker rooms and keep toiletry items stocked
  -clean tables, chairs and bleachers as needed
  -keeping facility areas in an organized state

- Setting up for programs in each of the above areas.
Duties include:
  -setting up and tearing down tables and chairs for programs and rentals
  -setting up and tearing down foam activity mats/toys and other toys/games
  -setting up and tearing down of volleyball equipment
  -assisting rentals in set up procedures according to their set up needs
  -general sand volleyball court maintenance, including operation of sand pro rake

- Responsible for equipment and facility up keep
- Will perform safety check lists to ensure patron safety while attending programs and utilizing facility equipment

-Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Support all aspects of the Peoria Park District Safety Program.

-Possessing a valid Illinois Drivers License

-Picking up and/or delivering equipment and materials as assigned

-Performing other duties as assigned:
  -Which are reasonably related to the duties described; or  
  -which need to be performed promptly to avoid safety hazards or to protect   Park District property; or
  -which are not generally described in other job descriptions; or
  -when the amount of work exceeds the availability of the Park District employees within the appropriate job classification

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The work requires physical exertion in handling supplies, equipment and materials that are relative to the services rendered. Prolonged standing, bending, stooping and twisting are required; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on each leg of a repetitive unloading/reloading process; activities involving risks which are typically associated with athletic, recreational and facility rental events; normal safety precautions typical for these areas of services are required. Exposure to power equipment, outdoor turf/field implements and chemicals, indoor cleaning agents and solutions and various hand tools will be required. The indoor work environment is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Outdoor work will expose the incumbent to a wide range of seasonal weather patterns and environmental conditions.

RIVERPLEX FEMALE CUSTODIAN

POSITION: Part Time (Saturdays & Sundays)

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent. Although a diploma is preferred, extensive experience in a like position may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
• General knowledge of cleaning and maintaining facilities is required.
• Must possess basic repair and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate and maintain mechanized cleaning equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently.

DUTIES:
• Monitor the cleanliness of the female locker room.
• Ensure that program areas, equipment and locker rooms are neat and in good repair.
• Perform all assigned facility maintenance and clean up.
• Assist in preparation and monitoring of maintenance supplies.
• Assist in keeping the RiverPlex and surrounding grounds clean, safe, comfortable and attractive.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:
• Prolonged standing, bending, stooping and twisting are required; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on each leg of a repetitive unloading/reloading process.
• Starting salary wage is $8.25 per hour.



LIFEGUARDS
The Peoria Park District has part-time openings for lifeguards at the AquaPlex. Must have a current Ellis NPWLTP certification, or be able to complete an upcoming training. Call Sue Wheeler at 309-282-1531 for information on training classes.

REGISTRATION CLERK

POSITION: Part Time

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or GED.
• Working knowledge of computers and general office procedures required.
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Must possess excellent customer service and organizational skills.

DUTIES:
• Answer and screen incoming calls, providing information to callers, and referring callers to other sources as needed on a multiple-line phone system.
• Assist with walk-in registrations during open office times (8am – 5pm M-F).
• Enter registration into CLASS system.
• Accurately complete business transactions.
• Provide general clerical functions such as faxing, photocopying and filing.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:
• Ability to bend at waist and knees in order to file.
• 10 – 15 hours weekly during registration periods (3, one-month periods).
• Minimum hours throughout the rest of the year (approx 2 - 4 hours/week).

ANIMAL KEEPER

POSITION: Part-time, must be able to work evening, weekend and holiday hours

REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Four year college degree in related field. Although a degree is preferred, extensive experience in a like position may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.
• Requires Class “D” driver’s license.
• One year of full-time experience in the care and maintenance of wild and/or domestic animals preferred.
• Ability to work harmoniously with the public and fellow employees in a positive and cooperative manner.

• Caring for the exotic and domestic animals in the Peoria Zoo’s collection.
• Cleaning and disinfecting displays and off-site areas in a timely and efficient manner.

ASSISTANT ZOO CUSTODIAN

POSITION: Part-Time (Average of 24 - 28 hours/week)

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent is desired.
• Background and some work experience in custodial building maintenance and grounds keeping.
• Ability to operate standard mechanized cleaning equipment.
• Ability to prepare facility for programs, meetings, and rentals according to daily schedule.
• Ability to perform routine grounds keeping functions as directed.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

DUTIES:
• Assisting in maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of all designated areas of the zoo.
• Monitoring of maintenance supplies, equipment and tools.
• Assisting in animal moves and loading as necessary.
• Assisting in programs and promotions of the Zoo.
• Keeping maintenance areas neat and orderly.
• All other duties as assigned.

OTHER:

GUEST SERVICES - LODGE CASHIER/CONCESSION

POSITION: Part-time

REQUIREMENTS: 
• Minimum of two years of high school
• Experience in food service preferred. Experience working with computers & money handling helpful.
• Ability to accurately handle & serve food in a safe and efficient manner and accurately handle money.
• Aptitude for on-the-job training and ability to follow both written and oral instructions.
• Must possess pleasing personality, courteous manner, good customer service skills and dependability.

DUTIES:
• Selling and preparing concession items accurately and safely.
• Keeping concession areas clean & sanitary and attend to all customer needs.
• Stocking, cleaning and performing regular open/close procedures.
• Assisting in setup and working rental events as needed.

GUEST SERVICES ASSISTANT - RENTAL/CONCESSION

POSITION: Part-time

REQUIREMENTS:
• Degree in business, hospitality, management or related field; exceptional experience may substitute part off/all of education preference
• Minimum of two (2) years experience in event management, sales and customer service.
• Experience in retail and/or food service and bookkeeping preferred.
• Ability to work weekend, holidays and special events
• Must possess good customer service and organizational skills.
• Computer experience is required

DUTIES:
• Assisting in rental sales, planning and oversight
• Assisting in daily operation of areas.
• Serving as an on-site observer to maintain quality control of lodge operations

Program Aide
Location: Logan Recreation Center
Pay: $8.25 - $9.00 per hour
Schedule: M-F, 2pm-6pm or 3pm-6pm and Special Events
Individuals needed to help supervise youth. Program Aides help youth with homework, computers, or other after school activities. High school diploma required, youth experience preferred.

Van Driver/Program Aide
Location: Logan Recreation Center
Pay: $8.50 - $9.00 per hour
Schedule: M-F, 2pm-6pm and Special Events
Individuals needed to help transport youth from school and on field trips. Program Aides help youth with homework, computers, or other after school activities. Clean driving record and high school diploma required, youth experience preferred.

LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION WORKMAN - EQUIPMENT SERVICE CENTER

POSITION: Part Time

REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of two-year Associates degree from accredited college, junior college, or university required. Extensive experience may be taken into consideration in lieu of educational requirement.
• Knowledge and experience in general construction, basic carpentry, landscape construction, maintenance and repair of infrastructure is required.
• Ability to work harmoniously with the public and fellow employees in an enthusiastic and cooperative manner. Communicate effectively in both speaking and writing.

DUTIES:
• Construction and landscaping for park grounds, including playgrounds, sidewalks, zoo exhibits, retaining walls, etc.
• Assistance with the set up and tear down of multiple special events offered by the Peoria Park District.
• Assistance with the maintenance and repair of aquatic centers, recreation centers and other infrastructure.
• Performing all other related duties as assigned.

OTHER:
• Membership in Laborer’s Local No. 165 will be required.
• Under the supervision of the foreman to which he/she is assigned.
• Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays is required.
• Must maintain a valid Class (A) CDL driver’s license.

PART-TIME PARK PATROL OFFICER

POSITION: Part Time

REQUIREMENTS:
• Four year college degree in Police Science, Parks and Recreation or related field. Must successfully complete state mandatory basic training requirement prescribed by the Illinois Training and Standard Board. Extensive experience may be substituted for all or part of the education requirement under special circumstances. PTI preferred.
• Must have successful proven experience working with people of all ages.
• Must be in excellent physical and mental health.
• No criminal history. No conviction for Driving Under the Influence or Reckless Operation of a Vehicle. No history of driver’s license suspension or revocation.

DUTIES:
• Patrolling park areas and facilities by foot or motorized vehicles as assigned.
• Enforcing all park rules and regulations, state laws and federal laws.
• Inspecting all assigned facilities and areas to ensure the safety of all patrons.
• Assisting with all administrative functions of the Police Department.
• Guiding and directing park patrons in their use of the park areas.
• Completing all criminal and non-criminal park police reports.
• Performing all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:
• Hourly rate $13.50/hr.

Campground Maintenance

This position is responsible for the following duties:
• Maintaining buildings, vehicles, equipment, and grounds
• Firewood splitting, stacking, drying, and distribution
• Assist with campground rental preparations
• Assist with check-ins and weekend camper interactions
• Ability to reach, walk, squat and bend at the waist and knees. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Good costumer skills are necessary. This is an hourly position that will require a high degree of professionalism. Individual must be willing to work evenings and weekends as required. Position is approximately 14 hours a week, depending on the demand of campground.

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Morning, late afternoon and early evening times available at various locations throughout Peoria. Starting hourly wage is $10.00 - $15.00 based on previous experience.

A CERTIFIED YOGA INSTRUCTOR is needed immediately to teach “chair” Yoga classes to 50+ adults. 2-4 hours per week.

A CERTIFIED EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR is needed immediately for “Fun and Fit Over 50” adult exercise classes. 2-5 hours per week.

A CHEERLEADING COACH is needed beginning January 2012. Coach works 2-4 hours per week coaching 50+ adults in cheerleading squad. The cheerleading squad will compete in the Heart of Illinois Senior Games in May 2012.

The Heart of Illinois Special Recreation Association (HISRA) is a cooperative effort of the Peoria, Morton, Chillicothe, and Washington Park Districts. Its mission is to provide quality recreation programs and services to individuals with disabilities and special needs. HISRA has several openings for responsible and caring individuals:

PROGRAM LEADER (Several Positions Available)

REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working with adults and/or children with disabilities.
• Supervisory and/or leadership experience is preferred.
• Must be enthusiastic, patient and provide excellent customer service.
• Knowledge of recreation, special recreation, adaptive physical education, leisure skills or other related fields.
• Must be 21 years of age and possess a valid Driver’s License.
DUTIES:
• Implement planned activities and supervise participants, program aides and volunteers.
• Establish excellent rapport with participants, parents and coworkers.
• Analyze participants’ current developmental status and target areas for potential growth.
• Develop a session-to-session program agenda utilizing proper lesson plan format.
• Complete and submit all required written reports.
• Develop a variety of experiences for HISRA participants.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
OTHER:
• One of these positions is a leader position for HISRA’s FOCUS Program for adults. Hours are approximately 28 hours per week, Monday thru Thursday between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00PM. Start and end time is potentially flexible.

POSITION: Part-time, must be able to work some evening and weekend hours

REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have a valid Driver’s License
• Experience in swim team coaching
• Valid CPR and first aid certificates
• Ability to relate to public and other employees in an enthusiastic and proper manner.
DUTIES:
• Serve as a representative to the swim team affiliate organizations; including the Parents' Club, and United States Swimming
• Assist in establishment of swim team requirements, practice and meet schedules, swimmer time and attendance records and swim team program content
• Give instructions on correct swimming and diving techniques to people of all ages and abilities
