The Prairie School curriculum is available to anyone who attends a Prairie School workshop. Several are currently on the horizon. Check the calendar for dates and locations as well as registration information.
The workshops will equip you with a working knowledge of the Illinois tallgrass prairie, walk you through the basics of planting a prairie and introduce the Prairie School curriculum. The workshop lets attendees sample a variety of activities for various grade levels, covering everything from worksheets to outdoor games. Teachers will also receive some of the teaching aids to go along with the curriculum.
FPNC Prairie School Workshop Facilitation
If you can't attend a scheduled workshop, there are other alternatives. Forest Park is happy to facilitate customized Prairie School workshops at schools and nature centers throughout the state. Workshops can be held as in-service events, on Saturdays, or during the summer. Workshops typically include an overview of the Prairie School curriculum and instruction on how to plant and maintain a schoolyard prairie, but can be tailored to fit your needs. CPDU credits can also be awarded for workshop participation.
The base cost for a one-day workshop is $500. Additional costs include $35 per binder required and $10 per set of CDs required. For more information on scheduling a workshop, contact Dean Johnston, Forest Park Nature Center's Prairie School Project Coordinator, at 309-686-3360 or djohnston@peoriaparks.org.
