GENERAL INFORMATION 

Sommer Park encompasses 320 acres of rolling meadows, prairies, farmland and open woodlands. It is a use-by-reservation facility that offers private picnics & outings for groups of 20-2000,  April through October.

Rent-A-Park

This is the ideal setting for your group’s outing whether it’s a wedding, company picnic, family reunion or overnight campout. From volleyball and horseshoes to canoeing and hiking, we’ll help design an outing with your needs in mind. Groups may obtain permission to supply their own beer and wine.

Different minimum total fees apply depending on rental area.  

Choose from the following rentals:

• Prairie Shelter: This 250 person capacity covered shelter has large built-in charcoal grills, electricity and an adjacent playground.Woodland Shelter: 

• This shelter in Sommer Park’s most beautiful setting now has electricity, including lights and ceiling fans. Seats 50-60.

• Front Porch: Our covered porch can seat over 100 guests, with electricity available and bathrooms nearby.  

• Pioneer Log Cabin: Groups of 60 can sit outside at the picnic tables surrounding this historic cabin or use the adjacent log barn.  

• 3 Fire Circles to choose from; each seats 36 with a campfire pit and tables.

• Schoolhouse: This picturesque structure is perfect for a quaint, old fashioned wedding. Seats 60.

Weddings, Receptions and Parties

Sommer Park provides several options for wedding ceremonies and receptions. The charming new Pioneer Chapel accommodates up to 60 people. The Pioneer Cabin area provides a wonderful backdrop for your traditional or country wedding. The pond area also offers a truly scenic setting. Our Prairie Shelter is ideal for larger weddings and receptions, or book our Woodland Shelter for a secluded setting. All sites can be set up to meet your needs and are available in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Volunteers Needed

We need volunteers for parking and grounds for events!  Call W.H. Sommer Park at 691-8423 for information on becoming one of

our valued volunteers.

Program Coordinators & Activity Directors

We can arrange a special program for your clients. Consider hikes on our scenic trails, canoeing, and fishing. We can also offer pioneer history at our homestead, cemetery, or one-room schoolhouse, along with a hot dog roast or hayrack ride.  Just call!

Teams Course

Any group of people that must function well together can benefit from this unique opportunity. The Sommer Park Teams Course is a series of 12 initiatives strategically laid out in a woodland setting. This series of puzzles, obstacles, and challenges, by their design, will demand communication, cooperation, and trust. At its very basic, a teams course is fun. But it also allows for high quality, structured, and purposeful learning. Reservations are made through Sommer Park.
