ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION INTERPRETATION PROGRAMS 

Students from all walks of life can enjoy a day of learning mixed with outdoor fun at Sommer Park. From fishing, hayrack rides and picnics to nature hikes, pond studies and cemetery tours, Sommer Park has a wide variety of interpretive programs. Many of them revolve around our log cabin, barn, community hall and blacksmith shop. This Pioneer Homestead Program allows children to "step back in time" to experience pioneer life. Outdoor School 

$2/child (min. $40) • Pre-K & up • 60-90 min. per group

Choose from staff-led activities followed by your own or our prepackaged programs. Activities include nature hikes, pond study,

cemetery tour, creative writing, outdoor games or eco-friendly scavenger hunts.

Adventure Outdoors

$6/child and $3/chaperone (min. $90) • Grade 1 & up • All day program

A day of learning mixed with outdoor fun. A campfire hot-dog roast may be the highlight between canoeing or fishing, hiking,

initiative games and a hayrack ride.  

Pioneer Homesteading 

$6/child (min. $90) • Grades 3-8 • All day program

Students get a hands-on experience at being a pioneer child in the 1850s. They will have lessons in our one room school house,

tour the historic pioneer cemetery and assist with chores such as dipping candles. Other activities include making corn husk

dolls, grinding corn and playing pioneer games. Bring a sack lunch and drink.  

Junior Pioneer Homesteading

$3.25/child (min. $40) • Pre K – Grade 4 • Program is 2-3 hours

An activity-packed adventure back in time, including making a toy or craft, a homestead tour, a trip to the cemetery, a hayrack

ride and games. You may bring a sack lunch and drink.

 

School Days 

$3/child (min. $40) • Grades 3-8 • Program is 2-3 hours

Lessons with all materials provided in arithmetic, spelling and social studies. Our pioneer teacher will lead classes.

Teachers wishing to teach their own classes may do so at only $1.50/child.

 

Picnic in the Park 

$1.25 per person (min. $40)

This is a service exclusively for schools. Teachers are given an area to do their own activities.  

 

Webelo Scout Badge program 

$5/scout (min. $30) Conservation badges are taught by park staff and registered Scout leader. Badges include Forestry,

Geologist, Naturalist and Outdoorsman. 

 

All night or weekend programs have an extra charge of $10 and still must meet the minimum charge. Sommer Park reserves the

right to cancel programs due to inclement weather. In all cases, please dress appropriately for outdoor conditions
