Pioneer Days–Make History!

The last Sunday of every month, April through October:
April 27, May 18, June 22, July 27, August 24, September 28, October 19
1-4 pm • $2/person • FREE Hayrack rides
Come experience firsthand the daily life of rural Peorians in the mid-19th century! Activities may include, but are not limited to: hand dipping candles, blacksmithing, school lessons, woodworking, heirloom vegetable gardening, hands-on children’s activities, pioneer cemetery tours, hayrides, wool spinning.

 

 

Civil War Encampment

Saturday: 4/19, 9 am-4 pm
Sunday: 4/20, 9 am-2 pm

Step back in time and interact with Union and Confederate soldiers as they recreate the daily life of soldiers during the Civil War.


Family Canoeing Adventure

Saturday, May 3, 10 am-1 pm
$10/person
Let canoeing on the pond at Sommer Park bring your family closer together. This program is open to beginners and more experienced canoeists. Equipment, hayrack ride and hotdog roast is included. Children (age 4 and up) must be accompanied by parent/guardian or adult participant. Please register by calling Sommer Park, 686-3360

Orienteering Meet

Join blacksmith enthusiasts from across the state as they spend a weekend learning a new skill or picking up tips from other blacksmiths. A guest blacksmith will demonstrate his skill on the bellows-operated stone forge. Activities include blacksmith equipment tailgate sales, iron-in-the-hat auction and opportunity to interact with fellow blacksmiths. Price includes Saturday night blacksmith dinner. NEW! Fort Clark Vintage Baseball at Sommer Park!

Become a part of the newest sporting and history event in Central Illinois-the Fort Clark Vintage Base Ball Club. Be a part of the team as a ballist (player) or a crank (fan). Ballists will wear 19th century clothing and use vintage equipment (no gloves allowed!). Join fellow players who will have fun with this sport during home and away games -no experience needed. Return to Pimiteoui Pow Wow

The annual Pow Wow honors the Woodland Indian tribes once inhabiting the Illinois River Valley in the land they called Pimiteoui, and welcomes the return of their descendants and all Native American peoples to this area rich in early French and Indian history. This weekend-long event is an educational and cultural experience for people of all ages interested in Native American culture, arts, crafts and traditional lifeways skills. Enjoy a Night of Nocturnal Fishing

Friday, August 15, 6-9 pm pm
$8/family
Experience the great outdoors & enjoy the last weekend before school by going fishing when the sun goes down. We’ll provide loaner cane poles & bait (while supplies last) or you can bring your own fishing equipment. Prizes awarded for first fish caught each hour, biggest fish, most fish caught & best fish story. If the fish aren’t biting, warm up around the campfire. Bring the whole family, fishing poles, flashlights & chairs.
