    Eerie October events

    October 1-15: Costume Swap & Create!/Ages 3-14/Peoria PlayHouse – SWAP: Have old costumes you no longer need? Donate them to Peoria PlayHouse from October 1-15 and in exchange, you’ll receive a “Costume Swap Voucher,” good for a FREE costume at the swap! CREATE: Then on October 21, bring your voucher and choose a “new” costume from the collection. If your costume needs a little extra…a sword, hat or prop, the PlayHouse staff will work with your to create your own accessories. For more information, contact Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum.

    October 5, 12, 19 and 26: Hayrides & Hotdogs/5:00-7:00pm/Sommer ParkHave an old-fashioned good time with hotdogs for roasting, baked beans, s’mores and a hayrack ride. Vegetarian fare is also available. All ages are encouraged to come in costume. $6 for ages 3-10; $6 for ages 11+.

    October 6-29: “Hogwarts Garden of Botanical Wonders”/10:00am-5:00pm/Luthy Botanical GardenLuthy Botanical Garden will embrace the theme of Harry Potter by featuring magical plants and wizardly delights. Donations appreciated.

    October 13 & 14: How-Zoo-Ween/5:30-8:30pm/Peoria Zoo – Ghosts and ghouls will enjoy a Trick-or-Treat trail through Africa!, magic shows, a costume contest at 7:00pm each night and more. $7/person.

    October 13: Campfire Ghost Stories/6:30-8:30pm/Camp Wokanda – It’s Friday, the 13th—the perfect evening for a ghost story! Come hear spooky stories and toasted marshmallows by the campfire. Aspiring storytellers are encouraged. Bring chairs or blankets. Donations appreciated.

    October 20: Creatures of the Night/6:30-8:30pm/Forest Park Nature Center – Summon your courage and prepare to enter the dark forest. Enjoy a presentation on nocturnal animals, a Trick-or-Treat trail, stories by the campfire, seasonal refreshments and other activities. $4 in advance; $5 at the door.

    October 27: Halloween Party at FRC/5:30-7:30pm/Franciscan Recreation Complex – Halloween is coming soon so grab your mask or your broom! Don’t take your bag on the street, come instead to FRC! Treats, a costume contest at 6:30pm, carnival games, crafts, bounce house and prizes will be provided. $3/child ages 1-10.

    October 28: Pumpkin Bash/10:00am-12:00pm/Peoria Zoo – Enjoy a mini Trick-or-Treat trail, games, crafts and spooky decorations. Regular zoo admission applies.

    October 30: Fall Festival/4:00-7:00pm/Logan Recreation Center – Dress as your favorite character/costume and have a chance to win a prize! There will also be games, crafts, and treats. $2/member or $3/nonmemeber, for ages 1-12.

    October 31: Trunk or Treat/5:00-8:00pm/Proctor Recreation Center – Celebrate Halloween by trick or treating from the trunks of cars around a blocked off section around Proctor Center. Free, ages 1-12.
